Foundational reports on Villages and NORC programs
Early community-aging surveys asked practical questions about how programs were organized: whom they served, what support they offered and how they brought resources together. Those questions remain useful when assessing a local program.
This collection introduces three reports from the 2012 organizational survey work led by Emily A. Greenfield and colleagues. Read them as historical sources, alongside later studies that ask different questions about members’ experiences and outcomes. [17][18][19]
A National Overview of Villages
Results from a 2012 Organizational Survey · 2012
An early organizational snapshot of U.S. Villages. Our report guide highlights one particularly practical finding about transportation and explains why a description of program services is different from evidence of improved health.
An Overview of NORC Programs in New York
Results from a 2012 Organizational Survey · 2012
A research record for the New York NORC survey report, with its citation and a route into related work on community support. Use the original publication for its specific figures and tables.

An Overview of Programs in the National NORCs Aging in Place Initiative
Results from a 2012 Organizational Survey · 2012
A companion research record for the national initiative report. Keep this publication distinct from the New York report and from the later article comparing NORC programs with Villages.

Continue into later research
Our research library separates organizational descriptions, member surveys, follow-up studies and trials. That makes it easier to trace how a question changes: from what a program offers, to what members perceive, to what an intervention demonstrably changes.

Put the models into a practical decision
Looking for support now? Start with the local program’s current services rather than assuming an old survey describes them. Ask about eligibility, assistance, availability, cost and the backup arrangement for an unfilled request.
