About Aging & Community
Aging & Community is a publication about making everyday life work as we grow older: where we live, how we get around, whom we can rely on and how we stay part of a community.
We bring practical questions and research into the same place. A family planning a hospital return needs an actionable handover. A community organizer may need to understand what a Village study actually measured. A reader considering life without driving needs options that preserve more than medical appointments.
Our approach
Begin with the person. A useful plan respects preferences, relationships and the activities that make life meaningful.
Make the practical details visible. Who provides the help? How is it arranged? What does it include? What happens when the usual plan cannot work?
Keep evidence attached to its limits. We distinguish a survey from a trial, a perceived benefit from a measured outcome and an older finding from a current service description.
Leave room for change. Staying in a familiar home, accepting more support or choosing a different home can each be reasonable decisions. Our guides are designed to help people think through those choices.
What you will find
The guide collection covers home planning, mobility, caregiving, community programs and connection. The research library explains selected studies with their populations, results and limitations. The publications collection provides records and context for foundational Village and NORC reports.
Our checklists are conversation tools. Individual medical, equipment and care decisions should be made with the appropriate professionals and the person receiving support.
